Supplier Quality Engineer


Day to Day

While working on-going supplier improvement projects, you will be interacting with your internal customers regarding real-time quality concerns. You will provide technical support to Quality Technicians and interact with Design Engineers while driving immediate resolution. You will be a critical element in establishing a zero tolerance for defects from our supply base. Given an establied commodity or supplier list you will have ownership and through your use of quality tools and innovative approaches, the satsfaction of delivering world class supplier quality to the manufacturing operation

What You Will Do
Drive Zero Defect mentality, Lean Manufacturing and problem solving culture within the supply base on all assigned projects.
Analyze assigned supplier component issues and drive quality improvements to resolve chronic issues at the operation using 8D methodology.
Work closely with field quality engineers to identify supplier part failures and then work with product engineering teams and suppliers to resolve them.
Provide regular updates on SIR levels, top failure modes, and future quality improvement actions.
Oversee disposition of First Piece Approval (FPA) insuring that all content meets Whirlpool standards.
Travel to suppliers as required and perform process / quality assessments to ensure suppliers are capable to manufacture the components to support our needs.
Establish specific short / long term Quality goals for assigned suppliers and drive continuous improvement activities.
Champion root cause analysis for known quality issues and implement corrective / preventative actions.
Provide a critical link between the department and other process partners such as product design, manufacturing, procurement, marketing, etc.
Actively manage the assigned suppliers to ensure there are no regressions with the implementation of new parts or processes.
Identify and rank leading component failure modes for each product platform using external (SIR, TCQ) and internal (CAL, FPY, QAL, line reject) failure data.

Qualifications
BS in Engineering from an accredited university.
Experience in the appliance industry is preferred but not necessary.
Minimum of 3 years of Quality / Supplier quality experience.
Work experience in a similar function such as Product/Process engineering with a solid understanding of quality sciences is acceptable.
Outstanding people skills, with the specific ability to interact as a lead player, apply critical thinking and make decisions.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple quality projects with minimum supervision
Must have strong problem solving skills, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Motivated to drive organizational engagement through a can-do attitude and effective relationship building and teamwork skills
PC proficiency utilizing MS Office, MS Project

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
