Surgical Technician / Oral Surgery Assistant Job
Summary:
The role of a Surgical Technician in our oral surgery center is to assist the oral surgeon and the surgical team in providing high-quality patient care during oral surgical procedures.
This position requires exceptional technical skills, attention to detail,_ and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment_.
Responsibilities:
1.
Prepare surgical operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterilized prior to procedures.
2.
Assist oral surgeon and surgical team in positioning patients for oral surgical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
3.
Anticipate the needs of the oral surgeon during surgical procedures, providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment in a timely manner.
4.
Handle surgical instruments safely and correctly, ensuring proper maintenance, sterilization, and functionality.
5.
Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, following proper aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
6.
Assist with patient monitoring during surgical procedures, including but not limited to vital signs, anesthesia monitoring, and patient positioning.
7.
Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as required, ensuring proper documentation and labeling.
8.
Assist with post-operative care, including wound dressing, suture removal, and patient education on post-operative care instructions.
9.
Maintain accurate and detailed surgical records, including patient information, procedure documentation, and equipment usage.
10.
Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure efficient patient flow and overall surgical center operational effectiveness.
Qualifications:
1.
High school diploma or equivalent required; previous experience in dental or oral surgery assisting preferred but not required.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program is desired but not necessary as there is training on the job.
2.
Current certification as a Surgical Technician is beneficial, but not required.
3.
Previous experience as a Surgical Technician, preferably in an oral surgery setting, is highly advantageous.
4.
Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, instruments, and equipment.
5.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
6.
Excellent manual dexterity, with the ability to handle surgical instruments and equipment with precision.
7.
Understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
8.
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is preferred.
9.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
10.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
11.
Adhere to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
12.
Provide support in dental receptionist duties, such as scheduling appointments and answering phone calls.
