Plant Engineer

POSITION
Summary:
This position is responsible for managing shop engineering activities for the Repair Shops In this capacity, the position ensures optimum outputs are achieved in the most economic and safe manner whilst underpinning the integrity and infrastructure of the shop.
The routine of the Plant Engineer includes providing assistance and direction to other plant personnel in proper plant procedures and manufacturing methods.
Part of this routine involves providing guidance for preventative and repair maintenance to ensure that plant operations are able to meet output quotas and deadlines.
The Plant Engineer also conducts operational tests to ensure that designs fall within the expected specifications.
He/she may also design and improve processes to increase plant production efficiency and quality.
Typical duties include, but are not limited the following:
Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery in industrial plant.
Ensures the safe and effective introduction of new equipment, capital expenditure and process improvement technologies.
Determines training requirements and prepares training plans.
Develops the maintenance strategy for a defined area.
Identify areas for engineering and financial improvement and enable their inception whilst maintaining an appropriate level of availability and reliability of equipment.
Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition.
Undertakes any other reasonable task as required (competence permitting).
The incumbent works to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying oneself to the task involved, preventing errors, and developing and implementing personal quality improvement projects.
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:
Manage, coordinate and control all aspects of engineering in order to meet agreed departmental/ shop objectives.
Manage and control the maintenance strategy on a day-to-day basis, including routine, special and stop period maintenance, and to develop and implement capital activities.
Prepare and manage engineering/maintenance budgets, forecasts and plans.
Design all preventive maintenance programs in coordination with maintenance shop staff.
Define, implement and manage a risk-based maintenance strategy for area of control in order to meet the business, Safety, Environmental, Financial and Operational objectives at minimum cost and in the safest manner.
Actively implements and trains employees in accordance with the Company's safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental policies and programs, and enforces compliance with published work rules.
Coordinates equipment selections, and interacting with contractors, Establish standards and policies for pollution control, installation, modification, quality control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment, according to engineering principles and safety regulations.
Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities and responsible care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Requires an expert understanding of maintenance and engineering processes and strategies.
Requires knowledge and understanding and the requirements of a top tier site.
Will be qualified to degree level (or a minimum 5-years of experience) in a process, technical or engineering discipline.
Will be able to demonstrate previous success in introducing risk-based maintenance techniques into industrial/manufacturing organizations.
Will be familiar with computerized maintenance management systems, Will ideally be a professionally chartered engineer, with significant experience in risk-based maintenance engineering and personnel management.
Excellent written and strong communication, interaction, and presentation skills required.
